Sleeping pills: another good reason to avoid them!
We alert you regularly about the risks of regular consumption of sleeping pills: sleep apnea, risk of hypertension, falling, memory impairment ... they would also promote Alzheimer's disease, and now Parkinson's! This is revealed by a recent meta-analysis (which compiles several studies on the subject) presented by Indian researchers at the last congress on this disease, in Vancouver (Canada) and relayed by our colleagues at Santé magazine. Until now, the link between hypnotic consumption and Parkinson's disease has been controversial. Scientists have shown, however, that based on these studies of 116,000 people, the consumption of zolpidem (the Stilnox molecule) would increase the risk of developing Parkinson's by 2.6.
Although it is now completely framed (its regulation is close to that of narcotics), prescription Stilnox is still very important in France: it is the most used hypnotic. And when we know that a third of over 65 years are sleeping pills, there is something to be worried! Sedation provides a poor quality of sleep, while the brain needs natural sleep cycles to function properly.
It is recalled that sleeping pills should only help to pass a difficult period (not more than 28 days) and not become a companion of life ... Ask your doctor for help to suppress their use, reducing the doses very gradually (delete for example, a quarter of a tablet every three weeks).
