"My son is the victim of harassment because of his big ears and it rots our lives"

Harassment can take many forms but always causes great suffering. Often, the victim endures a heavy ordeal on a daily basis and remains silent to silence his pain and avoid external judgments. When parents learn that their son or daughter is undergoing some form of bullying, the dismay is at its height. Harassed because of his big ears, a child sees his life turned upside down when his mother takes a drastic decision.

A radical decision that will change his life

Gage Berger, a 6-year-old, went so far as to have plastic surgery so that she didn't have to suffer harassment again. The boy went through an extremely trying period during which his classmates insulted him because of his protruding ears. After years of humiliation, Gage's parents decided to have him undergo plastic surgery to correct this physical trait.

The 6-year-old was constantly being teased by his peers. As a result, the boy was often left alone and no longer wanted to go to school. “I would catch him looking in the mirror and touching his ears, and when he got nervous or upset, he would go after his ears,” said the victim's father. Thus, the parents of the young boy decided to put an end to this ordeal in a radical way by making him operate.

Gage was terribly excited to correct this physical flaw. The parents then contacted Dr. Steven Mobley, director of the Mobley Foundation for Charitable Surgery in Utah. At her institution, cosmetic surgeries were free for schoolchildren who were bullied. The very understanding doctor has already operated on many children who suffered from a physical complex to help them regain self-confidence. After talking to Gage, the specialist agreed to take him under his wing to operate and help him feel better about himself. Fortunately, the operation went wonderfully and two days later the child was able to smile again.

“He's so much more confident,” said Gage's father, happy to see his son relieved.
After this surgery, the child was much happier in school. When he got home and his parents asked him how he was doing, he was happy to tell them that he had made new friends. Her life seems to have changed since this operation.
Unfortunately, Gage’s self-esteem was severely impacted. His parents therefore opted for a radical solution to make their child smile. While this choice is questionable, it is important to recognize the signs of bullying when a child experiences it in order to ensure that the child is not affected by this terrible ordeal.
