In July, I participated in a Google event taking place in Dublin as part of the Success Engine Ambassador Program. For several years now, the Success Engine program has been supporting successful digital professionals.

During this day, I was able to attend several conferences, but the one I want to share with you is that of Jay Shetty: Why connected thinkers will rule the future?
Jay Shetty is a consultant in innovation and digital strategy as well as a vlogger and speaker around the world. His lectures aim to inspire and motivate his audience through workshops punctuated by interactions and sharing experiences.

This conference made me think a lot about who I was and who I wanted to be. So I decided to share with you the 3 main points he addressed: the importance of being open-minded, our role within a group and the way we look at what surrounds us .



I - Be open to any new collaboration
In life, we all have different goals, it can be to create a business, to earn 1 million euros, to have a boat, to go around the world, to start a family ... Some are easier to to reach others, and some may never be realized.

According to Jay Shetty, the best way to reach a goal is to help others reach theirs. By collaborating, working together, we go faster and further.

You have to be open to new experiences and become an "YES MAN". We must adopt a positive attitude, be open to novelty and increase our curiosity. By accepting to do things that you did not think you could, or that you did not even suspect, you will learn, stand back and seize new opportunities.

The most innovative people in this world have the ability to see synergies, connections between completely different elements. They are able to find the solution to a problem in a totally off-topic situation. For Steve Jobs, calligraphy has been a source of inspiration for the development of Apple products.

How is it possible ?

They are open to new experiences, trips, meetings. Their mind is open to a field of infinite possibilities, their only limits are those which they fix themselves. Steve Jobs and Marc Zuckerberg, for example, decided to make a spiritual retreat at a temple in India to challenge their vision of their own business.

We must enrich ourselves with people who have different visions of ours, be open-minded, share, collaborate and move forward.
II - Being aware of his role and that of others
"Do not treat people the way you want them to treat you, but they want to be treated"

For Jay Shetty, wanting to treat people the way we would like them to treat us is a big mistake. Each person has a different profile and reacts differently depending on the situation. The solution is to analyze the profile of our interlocutor and to adapt.

It is important to become aware of the impact of our behaviors in our relationships with others and to better identify the different communication needs.

In a team, each person has a role, and the roles are complementary. At the conference, Jay Shetty uses the Marston DISC and identifies 4 roles:

You prefer to lead than to follow, you trust in yourself, you have a taste for risk and you are good at solving problems.

Influence: Enthusiastic, Warm, Persuasive.

You are not afraid to be in the center of attention, you are better when you are surrounded, you are a good communicator, you are positive and motivating.

Stability: Loyal, Foresee, Patient.

You are friendly and generous, you have a calm temperament, you understand and you listen, you are unifying in a group.

Compliance: Demanding, Accurate, Careful.

You are careful in your decisions, you analyze systematically, you thirst for knowledge and you have the concern for detail.

The most effective people are those who are aware of their strengths, their weaknesses and those of their collaborators. These people are able to adapt to different situations, avoid conflicts and gain productivity.

At Google, every new employee passes this test to discover their profile and uses this method to find out how to approach their employees.


IsleIt is therefore very important that you become aware of your role and that of your partners. During your group work, you may have experienced internal conflicts, communication problems. Depending on the situation, we do not all react in the same way, but there is nothing serious about it, it is enough to understand it, to anticipate it, in order to make sure that everyone moves in the same direction.


III - Think like a child
Today, we look at things for what they are. When we observe an object, we do not ask questions, we already know its usefulness, its characteristics.
When I get up in the morning, I take the milk out of the fridge, fill my bowl and put it in the microwave. Scene quite classic of a student morning. But imagine that you have never seen a microwave and that you have no idea of ​​its usefulness? What ideas would come through your head while observing it?

Our brain is conditioned to perform actions quickly and efficiently. This is often very useful, especially when you have to carry out projects in a given time. But this phenomenon of action / reaction without reflection freezes our creativity.

At the conference, Jay Shetty takes the example of the mobile phone. If no one had looked at the mobile phone in another way, imagining what it might be, thinking about what it could bring, it might never have evolved. We would still send sms between two parts of snake.

In this world where everything is going very fast, it is sometimes important to slow down and have a different look, from a new angle. If the context allows you, take the time to question the basic elements that surround you, pass the reflection before the execution. Give free rein to your imagination and unleash your creativity, you could have good surprises.
