A Mexican student has attracted the attention of many media because of a sport known to everyone: yoga. Far from suspecting the danger that lay ahead, the young woman nearly lost her life when she was just 23 years old. Facts relayed by our colleagues from the New York Post website.
The expression "life hangs by a thread" is perfectly adapted to this context. Alexa Terrazas, a young Mexican woman residing in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico has paid the price.

A fall that could have been fatal

Saturday, August 24, the young woman decides to try a position of yoga on the windowsill of her balcony. At her greatest drama, she loses her balance and falls from the sixth floor of her building, head down, before landing on the sidewalk of her street.

The photograph of this fall quickly became viral, arousing the emotion of Internet users.
Miraculously, Alexa survived this brutal drop of more than 25 meters. But this incident was not without consequences. After her accident, she was rushed to a hospital in the city. Victim of multiple fractures in her legs, arms, hips and head, the girl spent nearly 11 hours in an operating room for several surgical procedures. According to the doctors, Alexa will not be able to walk again for three years.

Sport is good. Knowing the risks associated with it is even better!

We are constantly reminded that sport is good for the health and the mind, that it increases our concentration abilities, promotes a restful sleep and allows us to reach a considerable well-being. Only, all these benefits do not justify the risky taking of risks. Indeed, every sport has its share of potential risks. And without evaluating them, we can suffer irreversible and even fatal damage!

According to Dr. Gilbert Pérès, director of the department of sports medicine at the hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière, the sport is "good for health insofar as it is practiced appropriately, according to the physiological possibilities of each".

Thus, before practicing any physical exercise, it is necessary to evaluate the potential risks.

Yoga, a soft sport but not without risks!

More and more people are practicing yoga, a sport that combines muscle building and relaxation. Beneficial to the body and mind, yoga has thousands of followers around the world. And for good reason, the practice of this activity reduces stress, fatigue and depressive symptoms.

An article relayed by our colleagues in the World reveals that certain yoga postures are likely to cause vertebral fractures. Seniors, as well as those who suffer from bone fragility or bone disease, should not practice this sport without seeking the advice of their doctor. In fact, yoga can promote pain, especially in the back, neck, shoulder, hip or knee. In addition, this sport activity can lead to musculoskeletal injuries and fractures.

Sport, a formidable opponent against several diseases
Sport is an important health ally that must be practiced regularly. Here is a non-exhaustive list of diseases that physical activity can treat:

-  Diabetes :

This chronic disease is characterized by an excess of blood sugar (hyperglycemia) that insulin can not regulate. However, a scientific article indicates that sport improves insulin activity and can regulate blood sugar levels. As a result, physical exercise is very interesting for people with diabetes.

- Obesity:

Obesity is the result of eating too much fat or too much sugar and a lack of physical exercise. Indeed, when the caloric intake is greater than the expenditure, the body fat accumulates. However, a study shows that when combined with a healthy diet, sport is an important ally to maintain a stable weight. Indeed, it entails an additional calorie expenditure and makes it possible not to regain the lost weight after a diet.

- Cardiovascular illnesses

The practice of a physical activity has many benefits on the health of the heart. Indeed, researchers say that people who regularly play sports are less likely to develop cardiovascular disease.
