Fibers to protect your lungs
The fibers are a great asset for a transit in good shape, but not only. They protect against many diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, colorectal cancer, hormone-dependent cancers (breast or ovaries) or osteoporosis. And also preserve some lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is revealed by a new study, conducted by British and Australian researchers.
Scientists have shown that mice exposed to cigarette smoke produced less certain anti-inflammatory fatty acids essential for respiratory function. But when rodents were fed a high fiber diet, this effect was canceled, protecting rodents from lung disease. "We found that the fibers are able to reduce inflammation and lung damage," says the lead author.
In France, fiber is at the heart of nutritional recommendations. Recommended daily intakes are 25 to 30 g. To vary the pleasures and achieve this goal, you have to go as well in vegetables and dried fruits as in legumes (lentils, chickpeas, dried beans ...) or even whole grains (rice, bread, pasta, flour, oats) ...). Eat ... breathe!
